HOW TO PLAN AN EPIC PARTY WITH STYLIST AMY JOHNSTON
Planning birthdays? How about planning them while on vacation and still wanting them to look cute AF? Here is the game plan. Think about who you are planning the party for.
Who are you planning for?
What colors do they like?
Where will you be?
What is your budget?
It gets more complicated when you are celebrating two birthday girls ( MY MOM & AUNT'S AT ONCE!) , SO you have to pick colors that everyone likes. I went more basic white, black, gold, and the statement color pink. Mine was planned out of town so I needed to plan way ahead of time. Let’s break this bitch down shall we?
Okay let’s be real. When it comes to gifts or party planning in my family, I am the go-to-girl. For years, my dad has “planned” gifts and romantic getaways, but everyone knows who actually did the back end work. So this party I was planning was for my mom AND also my aunt. They happen to be starting a blog called Suddenly Sisters, which, when it is up and running, I will be sure to let you know ASAP. I knew planning a birthday party for two would be interesting, especially while out of town in Cabo San Lucas.
To get all the insider tips and tricks I interviewed my BFF Amy Johnston.
Hi babes! I started Johnston Style to document my passion of celebrating parties + interior design. Johnston Style became a Lifestyle Blog. So far, this has been an amazing journey and I’m so excited to see where it takes me. I married my best friend, Jason. We have been married for 24 years! I am so lucky to have such a loving and supportive Husband. We have two amazing children together. Ellie and Evan are my greatest accomplishments.
5 TIPS FOR HOSTING A STRESS-FREE PARTY!
Planning is the biggest key to a successful party! Details are essential. Guest list, special drinks, food, decorations, atmosphere, what is occasion are you celebrating?
Stick to what you can afford. Entertaining is an extension of your heart and shouldn’t be stressful.
♡ MAKE IT SIMPLE
You don’t have to redecorate your whole house. Just organized it and make sure it’s clean. Fresh hand towels in the guest bath, fresh roll of towel paper, extra ice in the kitchen, my secret is that I decorate seasonally so my house is always ready for a quick party/gathering.
♡ KEEP IT SEMI-HOMEMADE.
I never make all the food at a party! I always make what I feel like... the fun cupcakes, a cute seasonal side dish. But, I ALWAYS purchase food from a local restaurant to fill my table.
♡ ENJOY THE PARTY
Make sure you prep, decorate and make your food/ drink ahead of time. I decorate days before the party happens. I make food that can be made ahead of time. If I’m serving a new drink I always test my drink before serving it. Get all your serving pieces out and displayed, then I add sticky notes on each one so I know exactly what goes where. Give yourself an hour before guests arrive to relax and freshen up so you can enjoy the party!
My favorite items to always have on hand are... You can get them in an assortment of color in my SHOP!
